Tawnies with an indication of age, such as "20 years," are the result of blending different wines with an average age of 20 years. Niepoort produces Tawnies of 10, 20, and 30 years. The mastery of aging and blending the wine is the art of Master Blender José Nogueira. The prolonged aging in small oak casks gives it its characteristic golden color. The main characteristics of an aged Tawny are the complexity of aromas, freshness, persistent bouquet, and refinement. An old Tawny is the right choice to accompany cheeses, egg-based desserts, and chocolate. It can be served as an aperitif, slightly chilled, accompanied simply by dried fruits.
